Summer Nature Camps

Our summer camps encourage kids to explore and learn about the environment through a variety of activities, including nature walks, bird watching, fishing, dip-netting, gardening, geocaching, flower pressing, games, crafts, stories, and more.

Who should attend our Summer Camps?

We welcome students entering first through eighth grade who want to learn about their natural surroundings. EIH will provide many opportunities for outdoor exploration, wildlife observation, and fun.

Registration closes on the Monday prior to each camp. Unpaid camp registrations cannot be held indefinitely and will be cleared from carts every 24 hours.

Discover Nature Camp is perfect for rising 1st and 2nd-graders with an interest in nature, providing an excellent introduction to the outdoors. Camp activities encompass a wide range, from nature walks and bird-watching to fishing, dip-netting, gardening, and a mix of engaging games, crafts, and stories.

Budding Naturalist Camp is crafted for rising 3rd-5th graders, offering a diverse range of activities such as nature walks, bird-watching, fishing, dip-netting, gardening, geocaching, flower pressing, and games, ensuring an enriching and enjoyable experience for every participant!

Hunger Games Camp

Hunger Games Camp

June 15–18, 2026 (Mon–Thu)
8:30 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Rising 6th – 8th grade

Campers entering 6th-8th grade will discover new skills while having FUN! Participants will explore the UHCL campus through nature hikes, bird-watching, and geocaching, try their hand at archery and fishing, and learn about edible plants and foraging, all within the spirit of friendly competition!

Birding Camp

Birding Camp

7-13-year-olds

Birding Camp is perfect for 7- to 13-year-olds who are eager to explore the fascinating world of birds! Campers will sharpen their observation skills, learn to identify local species by sight and sound, and discover the importance of bird conservation. Through hands-on activities and guided bird walks, participants will gain confidence in using binoculars, field guides, and other birding tools. Just like our youth birding club, this camp fosters a love for nature while teaching skills that young birders can use for a lifetime!

Please bring all forms to the first day of camp.

Location

Campers will meet in the EIH training room in the North Office Annex II building each morning of camp. The North Office Annex II building is located on the University of Houston-Clear Lake campus near entrance 3 on Middlebrook Dr.

Cancellation and Refund Policy

No refund will be made for cancellations less than 14 days prior to scheduled camp. Refunds, less a 15% fee, will be made if you cancel at least 14 days prior to scheduled camp. Refunds are not made for early dismissal, failure to attend, absences, or sick days.

Accommodations

Any individual requiring an accommodation in order to participate in this event or utilize these services will need to contact the Environmental Institute of Houston at EIH@uhcl.edu in advance.
